Casino Card Swappers Caught
“Bond, James Bond” It’s a quote that brings up visions of fancy casinos and people wearing tuxedos and sipping vodka martinis. And it’s not something that you are likely to encounter in a casino these days where casual attire rules the day. But there is one place in a casino where the dress code still rules the day and that is the Baccarat table. Many seasoned casino players never approach this roped off table of the elite. Which suits casinos just fine because they don’t mind having a game in the casino that brings to mind ultimate luxury and frankly, looks good in photo shots. (Have you seen what a slots aisle looks like with pudgy players perched on stools that are frankly too small for them. And no, I don’t want anyone taking my picture when I’m playing slots.)
But for gamblers who didn’t pack their tux, casinos offer midi baccarat and mini baccarat tables where the rules are similar and the dress more casual. The problem is that the social atmosphere of the baccarat table lends itself to a little bit of collusion among players. Which is where Casino Rama in Ontario, Canada, ran into trouble. Six men, five from South Korea and one from Toronto, were caught cheating at the midi bac table by swapping cards. The police have arrested the men and managed to reclaim about $15,000 of their estimated $210,000 in ill gotten gains during a hotel room search. They expect to find more of the money with more searching. Apparently these men were not Bond, James Bond, but somewhat casual and careless cheaters. The police are also checking to see if the men played the same scam at other casinos.
